Squirrel 0.7.2 has been released tonight. I’ve got a huge list of features to add before 0.8, and here are the first of them:
- Set new criteria on reports just like on smart folders: exclude categories, tags… This one has been requested several times in the forums. My original idea was to let you choose a smart folder to generate one report from, but I’ve finally chosen to implement the same predicate editor as in budgets and smart folders. This adds a lot of possibilities for your reports!
- When you validate an autocompleted transaction’s description, Squirrel now autocompletes the amount, category and tags. This feature was also suggested some time ago. I’m using it a lot now and it is a real time saver. I couldn’t keep it for myself!
- Added an option to sort reports and budgets. I’ve just extended this feature that appeared with scheduled transacitons to reports and folders.
There are also some bugs that have been fixed. There is no known issue, so please if you still have bugs after this update, send me an email.
The next mile stone is Squirrel 0.8. I’ve got exciting features on the list: multiple currencies support (needs to implement a validation system so you cannot create reports, smart folders or budgets that mix transaction of different currencies), smart import rules, direct import from the web browser… Some of those features might be released before.
Finally, I’ve decided that the final price of Squirrel would be €30, that’s about $40. And I wanted to let you know that the price of Squirrel will rise with Squirrel 0.8 to €22

When will 0.8 be out?
Feature Request:
In the BUDGET view (list or presentation slide), it would be very helpful to have a Total of all Budgeted items at the bottom of the window. So if we had Electricity, Gas, Mobile Phone, Groceries, and Rent for items (for example), we would like to see a horizontal graph bar and digits expressing how much we’ve spent and how much we have left in our allowance. Here’s an image I modified that is close to what I’d like to see for the BUDGET TOTALS.

Loving this app already. Downloaded the trial earlier today, but I just bought it. Great deal. Also, I downloaded the app for my iPhone. Very excited about it.
A few questions/comments:
1. Is there or will there be password protection features in later versions? I think this is critically important because both my devices are mobile (iPhone & MacBook).
2. How does syncing work with multiple iPhones? Is there or are their going to be sync preferences?
3. On the iPhone App, my phone is freezing when I tap “Budgets”, even after rebooting post install.
@ Kelley Just when it is done.
@ Brian I’m working on it. GReat idea
@ Benjamin Password protection will be implemented for the 1.0 release. There is no syncing between multiple iPhones yet, that should be added as well. The bug with budgets on the iPhone app will be fixed with the next update coming very soon.
Dude! I’m loving the simplicity of this program! I’ve used quicken for years and felt so frustrated at how overly complicated it was. Thanks for making it!
Also, I’m looking forward to the updates in 0.8! My wife and I would love the ability to budget forecast. Basically just put in monthly income, monthly expenses and see what’s left over….or not left over.
Thanks again for making a cool app for my Mac and iPhone. It really rocks! I’ve told all of my friends. I know when you get some of the issues worked out they will definitely convert!
While the autocomplete can potentially be useful, for items that have the same description but different amounts it gets very annoying to have to go back and fix the amount entered after it autocompletes. It would be great to have the option to turn autocomplete off, or to be able to choose autocomplete on each individual entry
I purchased a Squirrel license with the intent to replace MS Money.
I like your application a lot, but there is one important feature that I miss, and that prevents me from switching from MS Money to Squirrel:
To manage my future transactions, I need an overview of my future cash flow. E.g. the future balance of one account or sum of a number of accounts, based on scheduled transactions, for a future period (next monh, 90 days, year or custom period).
Is this feature planned (or did I miss something and is this already possible)?
Thanks
Erik.
I was just wondering if split transactions are going to be added? That is really the only thing from 100% jumping into using Squirrel as my money manager
I really like this app !!!
I would like to have more account types (like Loans etc.) or even better the ability to create my own account types.
Account Groups will be nice too.
Thanks for making my life easier with this great app.

I purchesed Squirrel last Feb, but until now it is not really usable (I can’t replace MS Money) with it… See my prev. post above.
I see there is a lot development on the iPhone app, whan is the next version Mac version planned?
I’m currently working on the Mac app, but yes, the iPhone app tends to slow down a bit the development. Squirrel 0.7.4 is currently being beta tested. Just on new feature : a reconciliation module but lots of bug fixes/performance improvements.
